Subject:  Support Oregon survivors of sexual assault: SB 752A
Hello friends,
I am sending along a bit of information regarding one way we can support
survivors of sexual assault right now here in Oregon.  I know many of you have
helped support Senate Bill 752A earlier this quarter by signing green postcards
I handed out.  The bill is soon to sit on the Oregon House Judiciary Commitee,
which has a fairly strong conservative standing.  Any public pressure will help
move this along through the system.  This is a local issue, Multnomah county
will be directly effected by the passing or vetoing of this bill. Below is some
information on both the bill and how we can have our voice of support heard by
those making policy decisions.  I know we are all busy.  This will take no more
than a few minutes and can make a big difference.

Hello concerned citizens,
Senate Bill 752A is coming up for a vote in the Oregon State House of
Representatives.  This bill will create a separate fund within the Department
of Justice for "safe" kits (also known as rape kits) for rape survivors.  Right
now the funding for these kits comes out of local law enforcement budgets.  
Because of the current budget crisis, a survivor's right to such kits is
greatly threatened. Many survivors are put into the position to pay for the
safe kits themselves.  Not all can afford this, nor should they have to.  SB
752A will create a fund completely separate from budgetary monies to insure the
availability of safe kits to those who need them.

If the needs of sexual assault victims are important to you please take a
moment to write to your local Representative.  Below is the website that will
allow you to email your Representative directly.  Click there and then simply
fill in the fields of information on the form.  There is a space for a message
text, you can create your own, or cut and paste the below text and then submit.

Please vote in support of SB 752A.  We need to improve our response to victims
of crime in Oregon, including sexual assault victims.  A vote in favor of SB
752A is a vote in support of victims of crime.
